So far, there have been no closures due to the threat of rising water levels in 91原创 because of the debris flow coming down the Chilcotin and Fraser Rivers caused by the landslide dam on the Chilcotin River near Farwell Canyon.
However, residents were being told to stay away from the water's edge.
In response to a 91原创 Advance Times query, the Township said no amenities have been closed, but "we are prepared to close them if needed and will communicate this to community members."
Metro Vancouver advised there were no trail or area closures in place "at any of our regional parks, including Glen Valley, Brae Island, and Derby Reach in 91原创. Patrollers within regional parks along the Fraser River continue to monitor the situation, and are inspecting river banks and advising members of the public to stay away from the water鈥檚 edge for their own safety."
Elsewhere, the City of Maple Ridge closed access to the Port Haney Wharf floating dock and the Emmeline Mohun Park pathway until further notice. Residents and visitors were advised to use caution along the Fraser River as treefall and woody debris from the Chilcotin River landslide move downstream.
A pulse of high speed water carrying sediment and woody debris began making its way down the Chilcotin and Fraser rivers Monday (Aug. 5) after a landslide blocking the flow finally gave way.
Government officials said the water began pouring over the blockage southwest of Williams Lake around 9 a.m. Emergency alerts have been issued for the length of the Chilcotin and Fraser rivers and people have been asked to evacuate the water and shorelines.
鈥淚 cannot underline enough how extremely unstable and dangerous the valley is right now," B.C. Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness Bowinn Ma said.
