208 St. deer warning suggested

A resident is asking the municipality to issue a warning alerting the driving public about deer.

A resident who recently delivered a report to Township council about the heavy death toll of wildlife on Willoughby roads is asking the municipality to issue a warning alerting the driving public about deer.

鈥淗ow about relocating the deer?鈥 Patricia Tallman has asked in an e-mail to staff. She told them that 鈥208 Street is particularly troublesome as it has no street lights. This is a very big safety issue.鈥

Tallman said that a receptionist at the Township Operations Centre advised her that the municipality regularly receives calls about deer that have been struck by vehicles in rural areas. Tallman said that is a concern which needs to be addressed.

鈥淢y concern is that this is a live deer that is in trouble, seen in a particularly dense area of 91原创, not rural with space to roam, and that it is in danger of being hit every time it tries to cross a road,鈥 she wrote planner Paul Crawford.

鈥淭he last time I informed TOL staff of imminent danger of potential animal crossing, it resulted in that animal being hit and killed. Perhaps this time, we could do more to prevent this big animal from being hit,鈥 Tallman wrote.

She has suggested an alert which could include road signs with blinking lights.

Crawford said that the Township is 鈥渞eviewing and consulting with others to determine what approach may be appropriate.鈥
