Several recreational vehicles were reported on fire Wednesday night (Jan. 22) at 7 p.m. on American Creek Forest Service Road, said the Hope RCMP and Hope Fire Department.
Hope RCMP, Hope Fire Department and BC Ambulance responded, with 12 firefighters quickly putting out the flames at an encampment on American Creek; the fire was in danger of reaching "other RVs and trees nearby along with large quantities of flammable liquids and propane cylinders that were also present."
"This was a significant challenge鈥, said Deputy Chief Joshua Westcott, 鈥淎s water was not readily available and had to be shuttled in throughout the incident鈥.
According to the fire department, two RVs were completely destroyed by fire and two others were damaged. While all RV occupants were able to escape, one of them did suffer minor injuries and had to be treated on-scene.
The investigation is ongoing and the fire does not appear to be suspicious at this time.
鈥淎 quick response by Hope area first responders helped to ensure there were no significant injuries resulting from this tragic incident,鈥 said Staff Sgt. Mike Sargent of the Hope RCMP.
