Who killed Trixie Twist?
That鈥檚 the question that will weigh on guests鈥 minds at the 91原创 Seniors Resource Society鈥檚 gala Feb.17.
With $14,000 raised at last year鈥檚 inaugural sold-out event, this year鈥檚 gala returns to the centre with a new twist: a murder mystery.
鈥淭his year we have a Roaring 鈥20s theme with a murder mystery, plus a jazz quartet, live and silent auction, and of course, a delicious buffet dinner,鈥 says Brett O鈥橰eilly, LSRS Manager of Fundraising.
In just two years this has become a must-attend event. Here鈥檚 why:
Reason 1. Funds raised support far-reaching LSRS programs, from senior exercise classes, workshops and and social events to resources for seniors at risk and an adult day program for those with serious mental or physical disability.
鈥淭he gala goes a long way to providing a lot of the services we offer here at the centre and in the community,鈥 O鈥橰eilly says.
Reason 2. Why doesn鈥檛 love a mystery? Meet characters such as Rick O鈥橲hea, Dina Mite and Justin Thyme, who all hold the clues to who killed Trixie Twist. There鈥檚 even prizes for those who solve the mystery! On arrival, chat with actors and collect information. 鈥淏y dinner, you should have enough clues to point you in the direction of the murderer,鈥 O鈥橰eilly says.
Reason 3. Stumped? Have some fun with it, suggests O鈥橰eilly, who penned the mystery. While the author can鈥檛 be bribed for clues to the culprit, 鈥渟uspects鈥 can be.
鈥淕uests will receive three 鈥榝unny money鈥 bills they can use to coax additional information from some of the nine suspects, but to get all possible information, people will have to team up,鈥 O鈥橰eilly says with a laugh. 鈥淲e鈥檙e expecting to have a lot of fun with this!鈥
Reason 4. Bid for great prizes! Among the highlights of the live auction will be a special package featuring two tickets to the April 3 game between the Vancouver Canucks and the Las Vegas Golden Knights expansion team, plus a night at the Georgian Court Hotel, $100 for Frankie鈥檚 Italian Kitchen, and a Golden Knights jersey signed by the inaugural team!
Reason 5. Great food & great music! After solving the mystery, guests will savour a delicious buffet dinner, while enjoying local jazz favourites from The Jen Hodge Allstars, with chanteuse Jenny Andersen. A busy Vancouver bass player, bandleader and arranger, Hodge is a versatile musician who can be found playing with a wide variety of artists all over the world. Andersen wears many hats in Vancouver鈥檚 music and theatre scenes in as a vocalist, actor, instrumentalist, composer, professional chorister, producer, music/stage director and teacher.
With only 140 tickets available for the Speakeasy Nights gala, another sold-out event is expected. 鈥淭he buzz is starting to get out there!鈥 O鈥橰eilly says.
