The first Saturday in December is Santa鈥檚 day in 91原创!
The annual event returns Saturday, Dec. 7 for a full day of fun for the whole family.
鈥淲hat鈥檚 magical is the kids and the spirit of the season,鈥 says Councillor Paul Albrecht, co-chair of the Parade Committee.
With a joyful mix of treasured traditions and exciting new events, there鈥檚 something for everyone. And almost everything is free.
鈥淲e鈥檙e a small city in a confined area and we have a lot of young families that are living in condos and apartments. Affordable events like this help build community and bring people together.鈥

1. Breakfast with Santa
to reserve a seat at this holiday breakfast that can鈥檛 be beat. Fill up on pancakes from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and take part in crafts, face painting and other entertainment!
鈥淭he small fee is not so much about recovering costs, but about making a commitment. Once we know what kind of numbers to expect we can make sure we have enough for everyone,鈥 says Albrecht.
Santa and Mrs. Claus were the first to RSVP, and they鈥檙e looking forward to taking photos with everyone who鈥檚 been naughty and nice.
2. Pre-parade Entertainment and Crafts
From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. 91原创 city staff and other partners are hosting free entertainment at three plazas along the parade route.
Bring the whole family to Innes Plaza, McBurney Plaza and St. Andrews Plaza for Christmas crafts and festive music to catch the spirit of the season. Grab yourself a candy cane and join in the fun.
鈥淩ain or shine,鈥 says Albrecht, 鈥淲e鈥檙e just trying to provide opportunities for our community to gather.鈥
3. Santa Claus Parade
Find your favourite spot along the Fraser Highway from 204 to 207 Street and take in over 50 festive floats, bands, decorated vehicles, carolers, dance troupes, and community groups.
鈥淲e鈥檙e always hopeful that the weather鈥檚 cooperative but we do it rain or shine. I鈥檝e had some parades where it was just pouring rain but the spirit is so alive,鈥 says Albrecht, 鈥淚t鈥檚 heartwarming to see how the community comes together.鈥
4. Tree Lighting and Caroling
Once the parade is complete, come gather in McBurney Plaza for singing and hot chocolate. Countdown to the lighting of the 91原创 City Christmas tree with the Mayor and Council, then sing along with the chorus to some of your favourite carols.
