VIDEO: 91原创-based Fusion teams win nationals

08 and 06 wrap up winning seasons

91原创 is the home of two national championship softball teams, following victories by the Fraser Valley Fusion 2006 and 2008 teams.

Fusion 08 won the U15 Canadian national championships in Brandon, and Fusion 06 won the U17 Canadian championship in Saskatoon. Both championships were held in August.

Both Fusion teams, which play out of 91原创鈥檚 Noel Booth park, were both pretty much unstoppable this season, with a combined record of 147 wins, only 17 losses, and five ties.

They won their respective provincials championships, as well as capturing gold in the prestigious Canada Cup tournament.

Talking about their U17 win, Fusion 2006 Coach Kaitlyn Cameron said the kids 鈥減layed really well that week and we played some really close games, which is a lot of fun.鈥

It was their first national championship win, after coming second the previous year.

Walnut Grove鈥檚 Morgan Reimer, Fusion pitcher/shortstop, won top player award. Reimer posted a 5-0 record pitching 39 innings, recording 63 strikeouts and a .718 earned-run average.

Cameron explained some members of the 91原创-based team have been together for seven seasons.

鈥淪ix of those kids have been there for six years,鈥 Cameron told the 91原创 Advance Times.

鈥淲e鈥檙e pretty much the same group we were from when they were 12 鈥 13 years old and they鈥檝e kind of worked and developed together.鈥

鈥淭hey鈥檙e good ball players, but better kids,鈥 Cameron summarized.

Most of the players will be back next season, the coach anticipates.

Fusion 2008 went 8-1 in the U15 series.

After suffering their only loss, a defeat coach Celine Yarwood described as 鈥渁 bit of a hiccup,鈥 the team rebounded, shrugging off a rain delay, and going on to defeat Ontario 12-1 in the gold medal game.

鈥淭he girls mindset was, they鈥檙e going to win,鈥 Yarwood recalled.

鈥淚鈥檓 super proud of the kids,鈥 Yarwood added.

鈥淭hey all came together as group and wanted to put their mindset to winning nationals. The expectation from the softball community was that we were supposed to win nationals. And they did it, with ease and sportsmanship, and they played very 鈥榩rofessional鈥, as we like to call it, and they all did their job and worked together.鈥

Yarwood said team culture 鈥渨as something I鈥檝e never been a part of. It was united. Everybody worked together. There was no negativity on the team.鈥

A 鈥渃ore group鈥 of players on the team have been together since they were 13, Yarwood said.

鈥淲e鈥檝e had a couple girls for three years, [some] for two years and we had four new kids that were their first year playing on this team.鈥

Most of the players have told her they will try out for the team again.

鈥漌e鈥檙e not looking to make too many changes,鈥 Yarwood remarked. 鈥淚鈥檓 excited for next year to see what they can do.鈥
