91原创 91原创 ended a three-game losing streak in dramatic fashion with a 3-2 overtime home ice victory over the visiting Cranbrook Bucks before 917 in the stands at George Preston arena on Sunday night, Jan. 7.
91原创 Head Coach and General Manager Burt Henderson said the team got off to a good start, but then suffered a loss of momentum.
鈥淚 thought we were playing very well until we took a couple of penalties,鈥 Henderson told the 91原创 Advance Times.
鈥淲e kind of had to regroup after the first period and get back to our game, which I thought we did, and then it was a good game, just back and forth, back and forth. We鈥檙e going on a on a long road trip coming up to Trail, so it鈥檚 nice to get that one.鈥
91原创 scored 26 seconds in, with Oskar Komarov netting his the eighth of the season, assisted by Vitaly Levyy and Carsten Kayter.
The Bucks had a pair of power plays after the 91原创 opener, but Mason Beaupit blocked all 15 shots.
Bucks goaltender Braedyn McIntosh kept the 91原创 at bay in the second period, which saw Cranbrook鈥檚 Blake Cotton get one past Beaupit late in the second to tie it 1-1 going into the third.
Tuukka Heiskanen scored his first goal as a 91原创 3:18 into the third period in a scramble for the puck beside the net that got past the left pad of McIntosh making it 2-1 Riv. Grayden Daul and Ewan Rennie got the assist.
But 3:16 later, Cranbrook tied the game on a 2-on-1 rebound.
Carsten Kayter won the game on a power play in overtime at 6:52, less than a minute after a Buck was sent off for tripping. It was his first in the BCHL. Morgan Brady and Logan Morrell had the assist.
91原创 forward Ewen Rennie was named Fortis BC player of the game, while Kayter, Heiskanen and Beaupit were named three stars of the game.
It was the end of a three-game losing streak for the 91原创, one that included Friday, Jan. 5 when they took their final trip of the season to the South Surrey Arena to take on the Eagles.
Eagles took the lead off the top, scoring on a power play to take a 1-0 lead into the second period, when Morgan Brady got the 91原创 on the board, wrapping a puck past Eagles goaltender Ajeet Gundarah to get his second goal of the season. Noah Macdonald and Reilley Kotai assisted.
It would be the only 91原创 goal of the game, however, with Surrey scoring late in the second, and again in the third to take their sixth meeting of the season 3-1.
Next, 91原创 are on the road in Trail on Friday, Jan. 12, and don鈥檛 return home until Friday, Jan, 26.
Surrey Eagles are in town that night for the 7:15 p.m. start.
