Aldergrove Kodiaks had a rough start to the new year after a 4-2 loss to the Port Moody Panthers on Wednesday, Jan. 1, at the Aldergrove Community Centre.
No goals were made in the first period, though there were penalties on both teams for roughing, cross-checking, and tripping.
Aldergrove's Jasha Bichin made the first goal of the game with assistance from Kyle McLaren and Taran Biring within the second minute.
Midway through first, Port Moody landed two goals by Nigel Ramlu with assistance from Jaden Kwan and William Song just after six minutes, and by Aiden Samuels with assistance from Nicholas Lee and Evan Fedele at 18:53 during a power play.
With seconds left in the game, Aldergrove got its second and final goal of the night by McLaren again with assistance from Bichin and Aiden Knutsen at 19:52.
Going into third period with a tie, Port Moody's Fedele scored the team's third goal with assistance from Ryan Sam and Chayse Hainz at 16 minutes, and the fourth with assistance from Marcus Lindholm at 19:34.
Aldergrove and Port Moody were nearly equal in penalties throughout the game.
Kodiaks netminder Kyle Spak was equally as busy as Port Moody's Rajan Bassi with 29-27 shots on goal.
The three stars of the game were Port Moody's Fedele (first), Aldergrove's McLaren (second), and Port Moody's Thompson (third).
Kodiaks remain seventh in the seven-team Harold Birttain Conference of the Pacific Junior Hockey League, while the Panthers are in eighth of the eight-team Tom Shaw Conference.
