91原创 91原创 wrap up 2023 with two games and a fundraiser

Honouring the late Ronin Sharma

Following a 13-day break, 91原创 91原创 returned to BCHL play to wind up 2023 by taking on the Chilliwack Chiefs in the valley on Friday, Dec. 29, and hosting the Surrey Eagles on Saturday Dec. 30 for Ronin Sharma night.

Friday, the Chiefs scored the opening goal 54 seconds into the hockey game off a deflection in front.

91原创 tied the game five minutes later off an Adyn Merrick tip in front, scoring his fourth of the season.

However, Chilliwack would take over, scoring three unanswered goals including two 43 seconds apart, to take a 4-1 lead into the second period.

91原创 were the better team in the second frame, outshooting the home team and getting a goal back thanks to the first in the BCHL for Noah Macdonald, as he deflected a Grayden Daul point shot into the Chiefs goal.

But they could not overcome the Chiefs lead, finishing with a 4-2 defeat.

91原创 associate coach Tyler Kuntz took a positive view.

鈥淚 thought Friday鈥檚 game we pushed back, even when Chilliwack was ahead by a couple,鈥 Kuntz observed.

鈥淭hat [Chilliwack Coliseum] is a tough building to compete in, but I thought we did well, trying to come back and tie it up.鈥

Saturday saw the 91原创 suffer a home ice defeat in front of 1,281 fans in the stands, blanked by the Surrey Eagles 6-0.

Former 91原创 goaltender Ajeet Gundarah got the shutout for the Eagles.

It was Ronin Sharma Night, a tribute to the late 91原创 player, with proceeds from ticket sales and 50/50 going to the Ronin Sharma Scholarship Foundation. More than $3,500 was raised.

It was 鈥渁n emotional night,鈥 Kuntz commented.

Sharma was killed Aug. 21, 2021, in an early-morning car crash that also claimed the lives of his friends Parker Magnuson and Caleb Reimer, on 104th Avenue in the Fraser Heights area.
