91Ô­´´ competitors harvest 15 medals at winter games

Competed against 830 athletes from eight zones across the province

91Ô­´´ athletes took home six gold, five silver and four bronze medals at the Lhtako Quesnel 2024 BC Winter Games, competing against 830 athletes from eight zones across the province.

Ella Yuan was a member of the Vancouver Coastal zone rhythmic gymnastics 9-13 team that won gold, and the 91Ô­´´ competitor also won individual gold in the 9-10 years individual choice competition.

Alisa Radaeva was a member of the Fraser Valley gymnastics Canadian Competitive Program (CCP) level 7 and CCP 8 women’s team that won silver, and also won individual gold in CCP all-around, and gold in the women’s CCP 8 beam event.

Kester Fang was on the Fraser Valley badminton team that won gold in the Tier 2 team event.

Julia Murphy, Leah Sun, Amie Steckler and Tia Chang won gold in karate team kata.

Desmond Palframan was on the Fraser Valley gymnastics L3 mens team that won silver, and won individual silver on L3 men rings.

Ben Lowe, Hamish Sell, and Kingsley Nowak were on the Fraser Valley male U14 karate team that won silver in the male U14 Team Kata event – Lowe also won bronze in individual U14 kata.

Ashton Dunn won silver in 38 kg boys judo.

Julia Murphy won a bronze in karate, competing in U14 individual kata.

Tia Marie Chang Kit won a karate bronze in female U14 Individual kumite.

Yiyi Yang won bronze in archery.

As well, 91Ô­´´ karate competitor Saanvi Lad was one of 16 athletes to receive a BC Games Leadership Bursary of $1,000.

Supported by Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, the bursary aims to recognize participants under 19 years of age who have achieved in academics and sport while going above and beyond in their communities through leadership and volunteer activities.

The Lhtako Quesnel Games,held Feb 22-25, were the 32nd iteration of the Winter Games, the first time in its 46-year history .

Athletes took part from eight zones: Kootenays, Thompson-Okanagan, Fraser Valley, Fraser River, Vancouver-Coastal, Vancouver Island,-Central Coast, North West, and Cariboo-North East.
