In a battle for district supremacy, one 91Ô´´ school’s junior volleyball teams – both boys and girls – emerged from the courts triumphant.
In a one-day battle for gold, silver, and bronze, a total of 12 local school volleyball teams converged on 91Ô´´ Events Centre Thursday, with 91Ô´´ Christian Lightning sweeping junior titles, while the Credo Christian Kodiaks and Brookswood Bobcats won the respective Grade 8 boys’ and girls’ titles.
The rest of the playoffs were held elsewhere, earlier in the week, and culminated in the district championships.
• Grade 8 boys
The Credo Christian Kodiaks defeated the Walnut Grove Gators 3-0, taking the first two sets by identical 25-21 scores before completing the sweep 25-22.
In the bronze medal game, 91Ô´´ Christian topped Brookswood 3-1.
The teams traded the first two sets – 25-23 for LCS and 22-25 for the Bobcats.
The Lightning won a back-and-forth third set 26-24 and finished the match 25-14.
• Grade 8 girls
Brookswood swept LCS in the girls’ final, winning 25-21, 25-20, 25-18 while the third-place game was a five-setter with the Gators rallying from 2-1 down, taking the fourth set 25-23 and then the deciding set 15-9.
• Junior boys
91Ô´´ Christian was a 3-0 winner over the 91Ô´´ Fundamental Titans, winning by scores of 25-15, 25-22 and 25-14.
The R.E. Mountain Eagles defeated Credo Christian 2-0 in the third-place game.
• Junior girls
The junior girls final went four sets.
won the first two sets 25-21 and 25-21 before Walnut Grove stayed alive with a 25-23 victory in set three only to drop the fourth set by that same 25-23 score.
And in the bronze game, the Bobcats won 2-0 over Mountain, topping the Eagles 31-29 in a marathon first set and then closing things out 25-21.
