91Ô´´ equestrian champion Tiffany Foster is one of several local athletes vying for medals at the Pan Am Games that begin next week in Santiago, Chile.
Foster, Hugh McNeill (swimming), Zachary Clay (gymnastics) and Georgia Ellenwood (heptahlon) are among 473 athletes named to Team Canada.
Foster is a returning Pan Am champion. In 2015, Foster and Tripple X III helped Canada win team jumping gold at the Pan Am Games in Toronto.
Ellenwood, an 8-time NCAA Division I All-American, won the heptathlon title at the 2018 Pan American Combined Events Cup in Ottawa.
Clay competed at his first Pan American Games at Lima 2019 where he helped Canada win bronze in the team event. It was the first time since 1999 that Canada had won a men’s team medal at the Pan Am Games.
It is the first Pan Am games for McNeill, who won four gold medals at the 2023 USports Championship.
The games will run from Friday, Oct 20, to Sunday, Nov. 5.
Team Canada’s 473 competitors will join approximately 7,000 athletes from 40 other nations in Santiago.
There are 423 medal events across 39 sports and 61 disciplines.
