One week after handing the league-leading White Rock Junior Tritons , the 91Ô´´ Junior Blaze could not duplicate the feat.
The Blaze bats went silent as they managed a meagre two hits in a 12-0 loss on Wednesday (May 31) at South Surrey Athletic Park.
91Ô´´ also split a doubleheader on Sunday, winning 11-5 and losing 10-4 to the North Delta Junior Blue Jays at Mackie Park, leaving the Blaze with a 13-8 record in the BC Junior Premier Baseball League.
Against White Rock, the Blaze surrended runs in each of the first four innings of the game, which was shortened to five innings. The 91Ô´´ offence managed just four base runners with two hits and two walks.
In Sunday’s action, game one saw the Blaze score three times in both the first and second innings to build an insurmountable 6-0 lead. They tacked on two more runs in the fourth and another three in the sixth.
Tommy Kreitz paced the offence with a bases-clearing triple while Brandon Nicoll brought home a pair of runs.
Samson Back, Alex Wright, Nico Bleha and Soloman Michaud each had an RBI.
Ryan Blight earned the win, allowing five runs — just three of them earned — over four innings.
By the time 91Ô´´ scored in the top of the sixth inning in game two, they were already trailing 9-0.
Kreitz delivered an RBI triple while Nicoll had an RBI double and Russell Young hit a sacrifice fly.
Joshua Mirecki was tagged with the loss, allowing seven runs over four innings.
91Ô´´ is back in action on Saturday in Nanaimo against the Mid Island Junior Pirates.
