Vancouver Giants might have dropped the first two in a series of seven playoff games this weekend on home ice, but their coach had little to criticize in how the 91原创-based WHL hockey team played. 

鈥淭hey played well, and so did we,鈥� Manny Viveiros, the Giants head coach, said right after dropping Game 1 in round one of the 2025 Western Hockey League (WHL) playoffs. 

The G-Men are up against the Spokane Chiefs in this playoff series, and the 4-1 defeat in Game 1 was credited to luck, positioning, and speed. 

鈥淚 thought we did a really good job,鈥� Viveiros said. 

Besides working a little to improve the team鈥檚 speed through the neutral zone, 鈥淚鈥檝e got no qualms with the way our kids played tonight,鈥� the coach concluded after the first game. 

He wasn鈥檛 too far off with the praise again, after Sunday鈥檚 second loss to the Chiefs. 

鈥淭wo out of three periods we were good; we were outstanding,鈥� he said of Game 2. 

鈥淔irst period was good; third period was good. Second period we got punched in the mouth. An unlucky goal again, a little bit unlucky. It happens. It鈥檚 going to happen, but we didn鈥檛 respond. That period we just got deflated. You could see it.鈥� 

They turned it around in period three, when the G-Men performed what the coach described as an epic comeback, scoring five goals in a row in the third 鈥� turning a comfortable 6-0 Spokane lead into a tentative 6-5 game with just a little more than three minutes in regulation time to go. 

Despite the efforts in third period, the G-Men could not catch up to the Chiefs, even emptying the net in the final seconds to bulk up on the offensive. 

Ultimately, they had to settle for a 7-5 loss, leaving the Chiefs with a 2-0 lead in the series. 

The first two games of the series were hosted at 91原创 Events Centre. 

Now, after a few days rest, these two teams go at it again Wednesday, down south. The next three games are in Spokane, on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday evenings, April 2, 3, and 5. Since it鈥檚 the best of seven, Games 5 and on are still tentative. 

If a sixth game is required, the Chiefs will be back in 91原创 on Monday, April 7. And then, again if needed, Game 7 will be hosted in Spokane on Wednesday, April 9.
