Team Canada finished in a solid second in Friday鈥檚 Nations Cup at the Thunderbird Show Park.

The event was a two-way fight between Canada and the U.S., after previous champions from Mexico put in an unexpectedly poor showing.

That will send Team Canada to Spain for the Nations Cup finals later this year.

Meanwhile, the big winner of the weekend was American rider Margie Goldstein-Engle, on her bay stallion Royce.

She was part of Team U.S.A., which won first in Friday鈥檚 Nations Cup. And, she scooped up the $130,000-prize Sunday for the Atco Nations Finale.

The Canadians didn鈥檛 do as well as they had on Friday, with both Ian Millar and Tiffany Foster having trouble on the course. Millar finished with eight faults and Foster hit two rails and decided to retire.

Goldstein-Engle had a clear ride, and the Irish riders did well too, along with Mexican rider Antionio Maurer. That led to a jump-off.

On Saturday, it was time for the Canadian children鈥檚 and junior teams to shine.

The Maple Leafs children and junior classes defeated their American compatriots, the Stars and Stripes, in a mock Nations Cup event. The course for the young riders was designed by the same person who created the main competition course.
