For the second straight game, a subpar third period was the undoing for the 91原创 Thunder.

On Saturday, May 18, in New Westminster, the Tier 1 lacrosse team was ahead 7-4 with 20 minutes to play, before losing 11-9.

And on Tuesday, May 21 鈥 back at home at 91原创 Events Centre 鈥 the Thunder trailed 8-6 entering the final frame. But by the time the final whistle went, it was 17-10 for the Coquitlam Adanacs.

The two defeats push 91原创鈥檚 losing streak to three games and sees their record fall to 2-4 in the BC Junior Tier 1 Lacrosse League, said Thunder coach Darren Buchan.

鈥淪ame thing happened on Saturday night. We gave up seven goals that period and we gave up nine this period,鈥 Buchan noted.

鈥淭he offence was able to generate more in the third period (May 21) than they did in the first two periods, so I was proud of that group; they worked really hard.

鈥淏ut the defence is just not there. They are big, they are physical, they are strong, they are fast. It鈥檚 a mental game where they just can鈥檛 seem to put it together,鈥 added the coach.

91原创 held a pair of early one-goal leads but trailed 4-3 after a period. They did battle back to knot the score at six midway through the game. The Adanacs would strike for a pair of goals ahead of intermission and then dominated the final frame.

Mac Timms led the offence with four goals and six points while Brayden Longacre (2-4) and Connyr Welch (2-2) each scored twice. Jameson Reed (1-3) and Xavian Washington (1-1) rounded out the scoring.

In goal, Jackson Hastings finished with 44 saves as his team was outshot 61-27.

Alex Tan (3-5) and Owen Eckert (3-3) led the Adanacs with a hat trick apiece.

Against New Westminster on May 18, Timms (2-4), Reed (2-2) and Longacre (2-1) each scored two goals in the defeat while Caleb Khan made 58 saves (.841 save percentage) as his team was outshot 69-44.

It was one of two losses for 91原创 last week as they also fell 14-8 on May 16 in Port Coquitlam to the Saints.

In that game, the teams were tied at four following 20 minutes, but the Saints used a 6-1 second period to take control. Timms led the Thunder with a hat trick and five points while Welch scored twice and had one assist. Longacre (0-4) and Reed (1-3) both had four-point games.

91原创 is back in action today, (Friday, May 24) with a road contest in Maple Ridge against the Burrards.

It is one of two games this weekend as they also travel to Burnaby on Sunday, May 26 to play the Lakers.

Junior A Thunder struggling

The struggles to start the season continue for the 91原创 Thunder.

The Junior A lacrosse team was on the wrong end of a 13-6 score on Tuesday night in New Westminster against the host Salmonbellies. Combined with a weekend loss in the Thunder鈥檚 home opener at 91原创 Events Centre, and the team sports an 0-3 record in the BC Junior A Lacrosse League.

With New Westminster ahead 4-2 late in the first period, the 鈥楤ellies scored late for a three-goal advantage and then put the game out of reach with seven unanswered goals to open the middle frame. The Thunder did outscore the hosts 3-1 over the final 20 minutes, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Austin Vanichuk鈥檚 two goals and five points were tops for the Thunder, with the team also receiving a goal and an assist from both Brayden Bushnoe and Calum Munro. Ethan Quinn and Nathan Roseborsky popped in a goal apiece.

Caleb Khan entered the game midway through the first period and finished with 40 saves on 48 shots, an .833 save percentage for the call-up goaltender.

Against Nanaimo on May 19, the Thunder had a great start to the game with goals 16 seconds apart early in the first before Nanaimo scored five straight to close the opening frame, and then holding a multi-goal lead the rest of the way.

Vanichuk and Temeke7 Gottfriedsen each scored twice with Munro (1-2) and Nathaniel Leroux (0-3) finishing with three-point games apiece. Quinn and Jonathan Grywacheski potted one goal apiece to round out the scoring. Brayden Wandler finished with 34 saves on 41 shots, for an .829 save percentage.

Andrew Bowman鈥檚 five goals led the Timbermen with Ty Pilkington chipping in a goal and four helpers. Keegan Okino made 37 saves on 44 shots (.841 save percentage).

Up next for 91原创 is a road game in Coquitlam today (Friday, May 24) to face the Adanacs.

The 91原创 Thunder lacrosse organization consists of Senior A, Junior A and Junior Tier teams who play in the Western Lacrosse Association, BC Junior A Lacrosse League and BC Junior Tier 1 Lacrosse League respectively. All three teams play their home games at 91原创 Events Centre.
