32 junior boys basketball teams converge on 91Ô­´´ this weekend

Annual basketball tournaments kick off Saturday with boys action, followed Wednesday by the girls

North Vancouver’s Argyle Pipers are the top seed for this week’s 55th annual Junior Boys Basketball Invitational Tournament getting underway in 91Ô­´´ this weekend.

While the Pipers are ranked No. 1, they are joined in the top four by the No. 2 St. Patrick Celtics (Vancouver), the third-seed Terry Fox Ravens (Port Coquitlam), and the No. 4 Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers (Surrey).

The Ravens enter as the defending champions after defeating the Celtics in last February’s gold-medal game.

There are 32 teams competing over the four days, with all 80 games being played at 91Ô­´´ Events Centre (LEC). Four of those teams are from 91Ô­´´, including Brookswood, 91Ô­´´ Fundamental, R.E. Mountain, and Walnut Grove Secondary.

Each team plays twice on the opening day (Saturday, Feb. 22) with the championship final set for Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m. The opening game gets underway on Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

The rest of the field (in alphabetical order) includes: Abbotsford Traditional Titans (Abbotsford), Brentwood College (Mill Bay), Brookswood Bobcats (Township of 91Ô­´´), Burnaby South Rebels (Burnaby), Charles Hays Rainmakers (Prince Rupert), Claremont Spartans (Victoria), Duchess Park Condors (Prince George), Fleetwood Park Dragons (Surrey), Holy Cross Crusaders (Surrey), Kelowna Owls (Kelowna), Lambrick Park Lions (Victoria), 91Ô­´´ Fundamental Titans (Township of 91Ô­´´), New Westminster Hyacks (New Westminster), Oak Bay Bays (Victoria), Pacific Academy Breakers (Surrey), R.E. Mountain Eagles (Township of 91Ô­´´), Rutland Thunder (Kelowna), Sa-Hali Sabres (Kamloops), Salish Wolves (Surrey), Sardis Falcons (Chilliwack), Shas Ti Kelly Road Grizzlies (Prince George), Similkameen Sparks (Keremeos), Sir Charles Tupper Tigers (Vancouver), Sir Winston Churchill Bulldogs (Vancouver), South Delta Sun Devils (Delta), Sullivan Heights Stars (Surrey), Vancouver College Fighting Irish (Vancouver) and the Walnut Grove Gators (Township of 91Ô­´´).

For those unable to attend, all 80 boys' games will be available to stream via pay-per-view at .

Immediately following the boys action at LEC, the high school girls take to the courts for the BC School Sports Girls Basketball Provincial Championships between Feb. 26 an March 1, again at LEC, games starting daily at 8:30 a.m.

In this case, the Pacific Christian Pacers, Holy Cross Crusaders, MEI Eagles, and Argyle Pipers are the No. 1 seeds for their respective tiers heading into four days of play.

To mark the 75th edition of the high school girls’ basketball tournament in the province, the championship finals for all four tiers will be played on the arena bowl court at LEC. 


1A Tournament
Victoria’s Pacific Christian Pacers – who have won silver in each of the previous two provincial championships – were selected as the No. 1 seed for the BC School Sports Girls Basketball 1A Provincial Tournament.

Joining them in the top four seeds are the Sir Alexander Mackenzie Grizzlies (Hagensborg), Credo Christian Kodiaks (Township of 91Ô­´´), and the Unity Christian Flames (Chilliwack).

The Flames are the defending champions while the Grizzlies defeated the Kodiaks in the 2024 bronze-medal game.

Rounding out the rest of the field are (in alphabetical order): Aberdeen Hall Gryphons (Kelowna), Bulkley Valley Christian Royals (Smithers), Cedars Christian Eagles (Prince George), Fort St. James Falcons, John Knox Hawks (Burnaby), King David Lions (Vancouver), King’s Christian Thunder (Salmon Arm), Salmo Falcons, Southpointe Academy Titans (Delta), St. Andrew’s Sabres (Victoria), Ucluelet Warriors and Vancouver Christian Phoenix.

2A Tournament
Surrey’s Holy Cross Crusaders – open as the No. 1 seed in the BC School Sports girls basketball 2A provincial tournament. 

The St. Michaels University School Blue Jags (Victoria), 91Ô­´´ Christian Lightning (Township of 91Ô­´´), and St. Thomas More Collegiate Knights (Burnaby) round out the top four.

91Ô­´´ Christian is the defending 2A champion while Holy Cross placed third. The Blue Jags won the silver medal at the 3A level.

The rest of the field (in alphabetical order) are the: Brentwood College (Mill Bay), Britannia Bruins (Vancouver), Fernie Falcons, Hazelton Spartans, Lambrick Park Lions (Victoria), Mulgrave Titans (West Vancouver), Nechako Valley Viqueens (Vanderhoof), Notre Dame Jugglers (Vancouver), Pacific Academy Breakers (Surrey), Southridge Storm (Surrey), St. Patrick Celtics (Vancouver), and Westsyde Whundas (Kamloops).

3A Tournament
Abbotsford’s MEI Eagles enter the BC School Sports 3A Girls Tournament as the top seed, with the Sa-Hali Sabres (Kamloops), the Duchess Park Condors (Prince George), and the Vernon Panthers checking in at seeds two to four.

The Eagles have been ranked No. 1 for much of the entire basketball season.

Among the rest of the field are (in alphabetical order): the Alberni District Storm (Port Alberni), College Heights Cougars (Prince George), Crofton House Falcons (Vancouver), Little Flower Academy Angels (Vancouver), Mark R. Isfeld Ice (Courtenay), Pitt Meadows Marauders, R.A. McMath Wildcats (Richmond), Robert Bateman Timberwolves (Abbotsford), Sentinel Spartans (West Vancouver), South Kamloops Titans, Stelly’s Stingers (Saanichton) and Valleyview Vikes (Kamloops).


4A Tournament
The Argyle Pipers (North Vancouver) earned the No. 1 seed, followed by the Seaquam Seahawks (Delta), Riverside Rapids (Port Coquitlam), and Brookswood Bobcats (Township of 91Ô­´´) completing the top four for the BC School Sports 4A girls basketball provincial tournament.

Seaquam is the defending 4A champion after they defeated Riverside in the 2024 title game while Brookswood is the defending 3A champion before moving up a tier this season.

The rest of the field features (in alphabetical order): Charles Best Blue Devils (Coquitlam), Claremont Spartans (Victoria), G.W. Graham Grizzlies (Chilliwack), Heritage Woods Kodiaks (Port Moody), Kelowna Owls, Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers (Surrey), Mount Baker Wild (Cranbrook), Oak Bay Breakers (Victoria), Okanagan Mission Huskies (Kelowna), Semiahmoo Thunderbirds (Surrey), South Delta Sun Devils (Delta), and the Yale Lions (Abbotsford).
