Zero tolerance for dangerous driving before Cruise-In: 91原创 RCMP

Mounties will be on the look out for burnouts, street racing, and stunting

In advance of the 91原创 Good Times Cruise-In, organizers are warning that anyone caught doing burnouts is facing a permanent ban from the popular car show.

"The Cruise-In is entirely separate from Friday night activities," said president Marty Brown. "Cruise-In is a Saturday event."

Although the all-volunteer Cruise-In committee does not organize any events on Friday, a tradition has developed over the years of people driving up and down through downtown 91原创 City, starting in the early evenings.

The Cruise-In moved to Aldergrove several years ago, but the gatherings continued to take place mostly in 91原创 City.

In the early 2010s, there were a number of burnouts and cars doing doughnuts on open streets in downtown 91原创 City the night before Cruise-In. The 91原创 RCMP responded by increasing their patrols and clamping down on the practice, which ended in 91原创 for several years.

Last year, classic cars and hot rods cruised downtown 91原创 City on the Friday night before the actual car show, but a major site of burnouts and stunt driving was quiet after RCMP officers closed off the entire street.

In addition to the illegal stunting incidents, there are also a larger number of drivers who take part in informal, but legal activities the night before Cruise-In. For the most part, that means driving around 91原创, especially in the City鈥檚 downtown core, showing off their vehicles, in the early evening just before dusk.

Many locals put out lawn chairs on the sidewalk to watch the custom and classic cars go by on Fraser Highway.

Brown said he's happy to see car enthusiasts safely enjoying the car community.

"We love that our fans are cruising around 91原创 and bringing the car culture to town."

The 91原创 RCMP will also be on site for the Cruise-In on Saturday, Sept. 7, in downtown Aldergrove.

Officers will be in the area and a booth will be set up outside the community policing station where handouts will be given away, and a police cruiser on display, said Cpl. Craig van Herk.

"We want to see a safe, positive community event. We will work closely with the directors of Cruise-In to ensure everyone has a safe and good time," he said.
