Environment Canada is predicting showers will continue through Saturday for 91原创, and much of the Lower Mainland.

It appears the extreme hot weather that has been prominent in the 91原创 might be done.

After months with little more than a few showers, the skies opened up and 91原创 received a dump of rain today.

In the meantime, Metro Vancouver is continuing an air-quality advisory for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley because of high concentrations of fine particulate matter.

According to Environment Canada, the persistent weather pattern over the Pacific Northwest has transported smoke into the region from wildfires burning in Washington State and the B.C. Interior.

Smoke concentrations may vary widely across the region as winds and temperatures change, and as wildfire behaviour changes.

This advisory is expected to continue until there is a significant change in the weather.

Right now, Environment Canada is indicating that there鈥檚 a 70 per cent chance of showers for Saturday. Today鈥檚 temperature is expected to reach a high of 21-degrees Celsius. Saturday鈥檚 temperature high will be 17-degrees Celsius.

Metro Vancouver works in cooperation with Environment and Climate Change Canada, the Fraser Valley Regional District and B.C. Ministry of Environment to look after air quality.

Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.

People with lung diseases, such as asthma and COPD, can be particularly sensitive to air pollution. They will generally experience more serious health effects at lower levels. Pollution can aggravate their diseases, leading to increased medication use, doctor and emergency room visits, and hospital visits.

Be air aware! For more information on current air quality, see: www.bcairquality.ca.
