Emergency crews could have Fraser Highway through downtown 91原创 City block for some time Thursday evening, after a multi-vehicle crash brought down power lines and sent at least one person to hospital.
The crash took place at the intersection of 201A Street and Fraser Highway, just after 5 p.m.
According to Cpl. Craig van Herk of the 91原创 RCMP, the crash involved two Kias 鈥� a black sedan, and a small SUV.
The first Kia, the sedan, was westbound on Fraser Highway approaching 201A Street, and the SUV was heading east on Fraser.
The black sedan tried to turn left to head south, and crossed the path of the SUV. The collision sent both vehicles spinning in different directions.
The sedan wound up straddling part of the median on Fraser Highway, just east of the intersection, with its front end smashed to bits.
The SUV, also with significant front-end damage, veered off the road, onto the sidewalk on the southeast corner, and collided with a light pole.
91原创 City firefighters arrived shortly after 5 p.m. and attended to both one occupant of the SUV, as well as to the vehicle itself, which was venting smoke or steam for some time after coming to rest.
The 22-year-old driver of the black sedan was not hurt in the crash.
The 77-year-old Surrey resident who was driving the SUV appeared to be uninjured, but was attended to by first firefighters, and then BC Ambulance paramedics, and was taken from the scene on a stretcher to be checked out in a local hospital.
An investigation into the crash is underway, said van Herk, but he said that alcohol, drugs, and speed were not believed to be serious factors in the crash.
