VIDEO: CARES hosts special cat adopt-a-thon in 91原创

More adoption events planned for October and November

Cheri Hamilton came from New Westminster to adopt a new kitty at a recent Canadian Animal Rescue & Extended Shelter (CARES) cat adopt-a-thon in 91原创.

Hamilton initially intended for an older cat to keep her current female Siamese cat company. But, when she arrived at PetSmart, she fell in love with the two Siamese kittens available for adoption.

鈥淚 didn鈥檛 know they even existed, but when I saw the two of them together, I thought they would be perfect for my lonely Siamese at home,鈥 Hamilton told the 91原创 Advance Times. 鈥淭hey can take care of each other.鈥

The twin female kittens were full of energy in their shared crate, play fighting and climbing the walls as other potential adopters watched on.

鈥淎nother reason is they get a lot of attention here, which is fine, but there are other cats that are getting overlooked as well. I would like to see the other cats get adopted as well,鈥 Hamilton said.

She likes both cats and dogs equally, Hamilton declared.

鈥淢ammals are always welcoming and I think they add a lot to a person鈥檚 life, to be honest,鈥 she added.

After signing some paperwork, Hamilton carefully placed the kittens into a carrier to take them to their new 鈥榝urever鈥 home.

鈥淚 hope they entertain my current cat, I know they will entertain me,鈥 she laughed. 鈥淧lus that, I can just give them a long and healthy life.鈥

In the first hour of the adopt-a-thon, four adoptions had been processed and many cats found new homes.

Donna Healey-Ogden, a volunteer at CARES, said these events help alleviate the overload of cats the local shelter is experiencing.

鈥淲e鈥檝e been getting pregnant cats鈥 and kittens that have been abandoned and are starving. What are we going to do? Leave them because we are full? No,鈥 she said.

The shelter is planning another adoption event this month, as well as October and November, to help find the kitties a forever home.

Cats available for adoption are listed on CARES website at .
