91Ô´´ RCMP have identified the driver who died after colliding with a tree on 80 Avenue on Wednesday, July 18 as a 28-year-old Surrey man.
Cpl. Zynal Sharoom said the driver's next of kin have now been notified.
The crash took place in the 19800 block of 80 Avenue, and the driver appears to have been eastbound from Surrey into 91Ô´´ at the time.
Police found evidence that the SUV first hit a road sign at 192 Street in Surrey and continued east for just under a mile.
It then appears to have left the road near the bottom of a fairly steep hill and struck a tree. The car spun across the full width of the road before coming to a stop. The force of the crash ejected the driver from the vehicle, and he was declared dead at the scene.
The driver was known to police, Sharoom said.
Police have also determined that the car was a rental. The investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing.
