A 91原创 woman who was arrested on a number of charges, including human trafficking, is set to face trial early next year.

Jennifer Lynn Stephens is facing 16 criminal counts in a potentially lengthy trial by judge alone, currently scheduled to run from Feb. 3 to March 17, 2025.

Before that, she will appear in court on June 13 for a pre-trial hearing.

Last December, Stephens was charged with 14 counts, including trafficking in persons, trafficking a person under 18 years old, assault causing bodily harm, and assault with a weapon, among others.

The investigation that led to the charges began on March 7, 2023, with a 911 call from a gas station near  motel in the 20400 block of 88 Avenue in 91原创's Walnut Grove area.

The gas station attendant had called for emergency help after an injured, distressed woman walked in and asked someone to call the police.

Stephens was arrested and faced an assault charge as a result of the police investigation that came out of that incident.

In July, Stephens was supposed to appear in court, but failed to appear. An arrest warrant was issued, and the investigation continued while police hunted for her. The investigation eventually included the Surrey RCMP, the Vancouver Police Department's human trafficking unit, the RCMP E Division's behavioural sciences unit, a digital forensics unit, and the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Team's interview team.

When she was arrested on outstanding warrants in the Lower Mainland by 91原创 Serious Crime investigators in December, the bulk of the charges were laid against her.
