Surrey senior dies in Highway 1 crash

Investigation indicates a Toyota crashed into construction equipment parked in a pullout area

A 73-year-old Surrey man died after his vehicle crashed into a piece of heavy equipment that was parked in a pullout along Highway 1 in 91原创 Sunday night.

91原创 RCMP responded to the fatal collision on Oct. 8 just before 10 p.m.

The investigation suggests the 73-year-old driver of a Toyota Echo was pulling into a pullout area in the 24800 block of Highway 1, when he collided with the machinery that was at the side of the road, said 91原创 RCMP Cpl. Holly Largy.

The machinery was being used for highway construction.

It鈥檚 believed the Toyota became pinned under the excavator. The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle, said police.

91原创 Traffic Services took over the investigation and the Integrated Collision Reconstruction Analysts attended. Police do not believe alcohol to have been a factor in the collision.

Next of kin have been notified, said police.
