Two youths and a couple of dogs escaped unharmed when a fire broke out on the back deck of a Walnut Grove house Friday afternoon, Oct. 25, just west of 216 Street and south of 88 Avenue.
91原创 Township Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Snowdon said crews arrived on the scene around 1:30 p.m.
"The fire started out on the back deck, extended up the exterior into the eaves and into the attic," Snowdon said.
Most of the fire damage was confined to the attic, Snowdon said.
"Our crews did have to go in and pull the ceiling on the second floor [to get at the attic]. So there's definitely some water damage and insulation that was pulled down. But it could have been a lot worse."
Cause of the fire remains under investigation, Snowdon reported.
Five fire department vehicles responded to the call.
"Our guys did a great job on their initial attack from the exterior," Snowdon remarked.
A crew from the second arriving truck went inside and completed extinguishment.
The fire sent a plume of smoke into the air over the neighbourhood.
Fire crews and police temporarily blocked 216 Street southbound to traffic.
