A brief but intense rainstorm on Monday, Oct. 16 left some 91原创 neighbourhoods without power and motorists navigating deep puddles.
The heavy rain struck just before 3:30 p.m., and quickly overwhelmed local drains. In parts of 91原创 City, the puddles crept up onto the sidewalks, the drivers in low spots at intersections kicked up spray as they drove through.
The storm also seems to be related to some power failures in the area.
91原创 City fire chief Scott Kennedy said a blown transformer led to at least one power failure affecting the City, and firefighters had to extract two people who were stuck in elevators as a result.
BC Hydro鈥檚 outage records showed a failure just after 5:30 p.m. that was caused by a tree branch falling on power lines, which knocked out power to more than 4,600 customers in Surrey and 91原创 for just under two hours.
鈥淣o huge flooding problems,鈥 Kennedy said.
Fortunately, there were also no major motor vehicle accidents in 91原创 City as a result of the rain, Kennedy said.
There were no significant problems in 91原创 Township, according to deputy Township fire chief Russ Jenkins.
