91原创 School District will receive $781,000 from the B.C. government, which will go towards the costs of supplies, class trips, and sports gear for students.

The money is part of the Student and Family Affordability Fund, which is being replenished this spring with another $20 million, having already spent more than $60 million across the province over the last two years.

鈥淕etting to join a sports team or participate in band is a great way for kids to build their confidence and be part of a team,鈥 said 91原创 MLA Andrew Mercier. 鈥淓very kid should be able to participate in these activities without families having to worry about financial barriers.鈥

The funding can go towards class trips, basic school supplies, or the extra costs associated with joining a school sports team or school band program.

鈥淢aking sure that kids have every opportunity to succeed in their learning and personal growth is an issue that鈥檚 close to my heart,鈥 said Megan Dykeman, 91原创 East MLA. 鈥淎s a former chair and trustee of the 91原创 Board of Education, I am thrilled to see our school district receiving this provincial support.鈥

The funding is separate from the Feeding Futures Fund, which puts money into expanding local school food programs. 91原创 School District has received $2.6 million this year from the province for food programs.
