B.C. Premier David Eby made a surprise trip to 91原创 on Friday, June 14 to visit graduating students at two local high schools.
At Brookswood Secondary, students were putting on their caps and gowns for their annual grad walk, a local tradition of visiting their old elementary schools to say hi to teachers, staff, and younger students.
Just before they headed out, they got a send-off from Eby, along with 91原创 MLA Andrew Mercier.
鈥淵ou are an incredibly unique graduating class, that you have lived through a global pandemic,鈥 said Eby. 鈥淭hat shaped your high school experience. So, I want to say congratulations for making it, you went through some really tough times, and thank you for hanging in there.鈥
He mentioned challenges like climate change, global instability, and an aging world population that their generation will have to face.
鈥淭he whole world is getting older and there is an international competition for you, for your skills, and for what you are going to bring to the world," Eby said.
鈥淵ou鈥檙e going to be shaping our province and our world for many years to come,鈥 he added.
A number of students took the opportunity to get a selfie with the premier on their way outside.
Later in the morning, Eby stopped at Walnut Grove secondary to meet a group of grads. This group got a chance for a question and answer session with the premier, who this time was visiting with 91原创 East MLA Megan Dykeman.
He fielded questions on affordable housing, education, and electoral reform.
鈥淲hat I really wanted to do was to hear from you. I understand that you have some questions and I鈥檇 like to hear what you鈥檙e interested in and what you鈥檙e wondering about,鈥 Eby told the students.
He learned the Walnut Grove Gators "gator chomp" and again posed for photos with the students.
