PHOTOS: Building of 91Ô´´â€™s former White Spot car hop boarded up

Willowbrook location closed its doors on Dec. 30

The building of the former White Spot car hop in Willowbrook – the last in 91Ô´´ – is boarded up and sits empty on the southeastern corner of the mall parking lot.

After 44 years, the restaurant closed on Dec. 30, to make way for the 196th Street SkyTrain Station at the same location, the second-to-last stop on the new line that will connect 91Ô´´ to Surrey and the rest of the Lower Mainland rapid transit network.

The $4 billion Surrey-91Ô´´ SkyTrain project will extend the Expo Line 16 kilometres along Fraser Highway from King George station in Surrey to 91Ô´´ City. Construction is scheduled to start in 2024. It is expected to begin service in late 2028.

The White Spot website notes the chain still operates car hop drive-ins at other Lower Mainland locations – including Surrey, Burnaby, Coquitlam, North Vancouver, and Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighbourhood.

For 91Ô´´, there is a sit-in White Spot restaurant location in Walnut Grove and Aldergrove.
