The rain stayed away just in time for the annual Access Day at Greater Vancouver Zoo on Thursday, May 23.
It was the 26th year of hosting the special event for people with disabilities to visit the zoo at a discounted price.
Hundreds of people visited the zoo, with lineups starting an hour early before opening time, marketing supervisor Joshua Banta remarked.
鈥淎ccess Day gives us an opportunity to welcome everyone with diverse abilities to the zoo and make sure they have accessible events and activities,鈥 he said.
Sensory stations and activity booths were set up around the zoo, where visitors could learn about some of the resident animals, draw, or win prizes.
The Mesozoic Adventure was muted for the morning, and all dinosaur roars were set to a quieter volume for the afternoon. The Discovery Centre, next to the Oasis Kitchen, was designated as a quiet space for visitors.
鈥淲e鈥檙e really excited about the turnout that we鈥檝e seen, it seems bigger than last year so we鈥檙e excited to see what we put together is reaching the intended audience and that everybody is having a great time,鈥 Banta said.
鈥淲e鈥檙e looking forward to what we鈥檒l be able to bring next year.鈥
The Aldergrove zoo is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 5048 264 St.
