From pony rides to dog agility, the annual Aldergrove Fair is hosting a variety of animals for its 112th year. 

The fair is trying to take a firm stance on maintaining its agricultural roots, said Amanda Smith, board member of the fair. 

And to do that, the fair invited the Aldergrove-based 4-H Woodlands chapter to be a participant this year. 

"It was really important to involve 4-H because it is on of the organizations in the municipality that doesn't have a lot of high profile attached to them, and with the rest of the community seeing animals and youth involved with animals we hope to have other people inspired," Smith explained. 

4-H is a youth development program that provides classes and opportunities for youth between ages nine and 19 to develop leadership skills and gain hands-on experience with a variety of animals. 

"You don't have to have a farm with cows to be a part of 4-H, you can just have a couple bunnies or a dog and still be involved in something," Smith added. 

"It provides a lot of confidence in youth and a lot of education." 

Smith noted having 4-H as a part of the fair also enhances other agricultural exhibits such as the traditional tractor pull and BC Farm Museum. 

Members of the Woodlands chapter will be at the fair, including 12-year-old Natalia with her three bunnies: Pom Pom, Petunia, and Peter. 

In addition to the 4-H exhibit and animals, a local farm will bring their pig and her piglets, Smith said. 

"I'm looking forward to the pigs," she chuckled. 

The animals will be at the fair on Saturday and Sunday, July 20 and 21. 

Dog Agility will have two shows each day at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and will feature Aldergrove trainer Jessie Lawson. 

The Aldergrove Fair will be held at the Aldergrove Athletic Park.
