More than 30,000 people attended

Fort 91原创 celebrated its 28th annual cranberry festival on Saturday, Oct. 7 鈥 just in time for Thanksgiving 鈥 with 5,000 pounds of the seasonal berry at the centre of it all.

First started in 1995, the Cranberry Festival is held each year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving Day, which happened to be two days before the holiday.

The festival, marking its 28th year, has become a Thanksgiving tradition where vendors, food trucks, and thousands of people fill Glover Road.

More than 120 vendors were at the event with the majority being from 91原创 and the Fraser Valley, said Rachelle Cashato, executive director of the Eric Woodward Foundation and festival organizer.

Some local vendors include Fluffy Bunny Cotton Candy, Cedar Rim Nursery, and The Bog Riverside Cranberry Farm.

Vendors were also at Pop Up Park, the greenspace located on Glover Road and Mary Avenue, in addition to the usual vendor space along Glover Road.

Live music could be heard around the village throughout the day from a stage in front of the Fort 91原创 Community Hall.

鈥淸We like] seeing the community come together to celebrate and give thanks. [It鈥檚] always great to support the local artisans and musicians,鈥 Cashato said.

Each year, more than 30,000 people attend the festival.

Township Mayor Eric Woodward posted on Facebook that it was another 鈥済reat cranberry festival鈥 for its 28th year.

鈥淧erfect weather, wonderful crowd, [and] community spirit,鈥 he wrote.

鈥淔ort 91原创 is such a great community that continues to grow and offer so many unique experiences for locals and visitors. We are so happy to be able to steward the festival to its full capacity and provide a fun day for attendees of all ages,鈥 Cashato concluded.

Initially started by a community of farmers, the festival was later transferred to Fort 91原创 Business Improvement Association (BIA). In 2020, after the closure of the BIA, the Eric Woodward Foundation assumed the long-term stewardship.

In addition to activities in the centre of the village, Fort 91原创 National Historic Site also celebrated Cranberry Festival with free admission for the day.

Guests were invited to judge scarecrows and discover the world of the cranberry trade and how it shaped the fort鈥檚 past.
