A new industrial development has been approved for Aldergrove, creating two two-storey buildings just off 264th Street.
91原创 Township council approved the rezoning of the site at 26292 29th Ave. at its March 11 meeting.
The site will be rebuilt for light industrial purposes. It鈥檚 in the southern part of Aldergrove鈥檚 industrial zone, not far from a large self-storage facility.
Industrial land has been in short supply in the Lower Mainland for years, leading to the development of large sites like Campbell Heights, on the Surrey-91原创 border.
Council gave limited debate to the site, but Councillor Kim Richter noted that truck drivers who spoke at the previous council鈥檚 meeting noted that the area had once been considered for a semi-truck parking site.
Township staff confirmed that one of the sites historically had been used for some truck parking. The current owner, Beedie Holdings, was not seeking to build truck parking, however.
Part of the site was a residential lot.
Richter voted against the rezoning, but all eight other council members voted in favour.
Beedie Holdings will also have to build drainage and road upgrades in the area as part of the project.
