For a fourth year, Dave and Sunny Sharma of Aldergrove handed out free meals on Tuesday, Jan. 2, to members of the community at the Aldergrove Food Bank.
More than 60 families were served meals boxes loaded with South Asian dishes from Veerji Fish n鈥 Grill 鈥 which Sunny purchased that morning.
鈥淢y dad and grandpa always gave back to the community [when we lived] in Abbotsford, and I wanted to follow in their footsteps,鈥 Sunny, the Aldergrove-based realtor, explained.
Carrying on the family tradition, he said everyone had 鈥渂ig smiles鈥 and was appreciative and wished him a happy new year.
鈥淚 know this is just a small act of kindness, but if we all did small acts it would make a big impact on the community,鈥 Sunny said.
鈥淭he cost of living has gone up from groceries to mortgage payments, insurance, property taxes鈥 then numbers at the food bank have almost doubled since last year, so my dad and I try to help as much as we can.鈥
Meals handed out included rice, butter chicken, and naan bread, and were served during the Aldergrove Food Bank business hours.
Sunny said he鈥檚 planning to host his first golf tournament fundraiser this year, with proceeds going to the Aldergrove Food Bank.
