A brief hold-and-secure was declared at 91原创鈥檚 R.E. Mountain Secondary and Peter Ewart Middle on Wednesday as police dealt with a mental health issue nearby.

The incident began at about 12:30 p.m. when a driver called the 91原创 RCMP detachment, said Cpl. Craig Van Herk, spokesperson for the 91原创 RCMP.

After a brief conversation, the staff at the detachment determined the caller was having mental health issues.

The driver indicated they were headed towards the 91原创 Events Centre, which is directly adjacent to the two schools.

Van Herk said police called in the hold and secure for the schools out of an abundance of caution. It was lifted shortly afterwards, when they confirmed that the driver had in fact not stopped there, but was headed west on the Trans Canada Highway into Vancouver.

Police stopped the driver in Vancouver and took them for medical treatment, Van Herk said.
