Residents of Cloverdale-91Ô´´ City will still be able to visit their local MP's office for local constituency services, even though the MP has stepped down.
Two-time area Member of Parliament John Aldag announced his resignation in May, a move that will likely trigger a by-election sometime in the coming months.
Residents of the riding have been receiving notices from the Clerk of the House of Commons, advising them that the Chief Government Whip, Liberal MP Ruby Sahota, will take over supervising staff kept on at the constituency office.
Local offices help residents with access to federal government programs. The office, at 6820 188 St. in Cloverdale, will remain open, and local residents can reach it by phone at 604-575-6595, or email at Cloverdale-91Ô´´City@parl.gc.ca.
Aldag was first elected in 2015. In 2019, he lost to Conservative candidate Tamara Jansen, in a close-fought race that came down to a gap of just under 1,400 votes. In the 2021 election, Aldag won the seat back in a similarly close-fought campaign, winning by just over 1,600 votes.
