Swimming and aquafit courses are popular, and low-impact, ways for seniors to stay healthy.

Around 91原创, there are options throughout the year in indoor and outdoor public pools for getting some exercise, complete with seniors discounts.

91原创 Township has three major pools 鈥 at W.C. Blair Recreation Centre in Murrayville, at Walnut Grove Community Centre, and at Aldergrove Community Centre. The first two are indoor pools, while Aldergrove has an outdoor covered pool.

91原创 City鈥檚 Al Anderson Memorial Pool is outdoors, and operates only during the spring and summer months.

Regardless of which pool, all of them offer adult lane swimming and various forms of aquafit classes.

Shallow water and deep water aquafit are offered in the Township.

Shallow water aquafit is a low-impact, moderate intensity workout that involves both cardiovascular exercise, strengthening, and stretching key muscle groups.

Deep water aquafit, which takes place in the dive tanks of the local pools, uses special equipment to maintain buoyancy.

A variation on aquafit is arthrosize, offered at the Township pools. Arthrosize is designed for people with mild to advanced arthritis and aims at relieving stiffness and increasing flexibility.

Pools in 91原创 also offer adult lane swimming times, with the Al Anderson Pool in 91原创 City opening in May, and the Township pools open most of the year.

Although aquafit and adult swimming times are open to most residents, they are particularly popular with seniors.

At 91原创 City鈥檚 Al Anderson Memorial Pool, there are adult-only public and length swimming times four nights a week, from Monday to Thursday. In the spring, they run from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m., and in the summer, starting July 2, they run from 9 to 10:30 p.m.

Seniors in the City pay a reduced rate, with single sessions starting at $3.05, and with season passes costing $97.60.

91原创 Township recently reduced fees for drop-ins and active passes at its rec facilities, which includes pools and swimming classes.

Seniors age 60 and older already paid a lowered rate, with 鈥渟uper seniors鈥 of over 80 years old paying still less.

The age of a 鈥渟uper senior鈥 has now been lowered to 70, and the cost for super seniors is $1 per day, or $99 for an annual pass.

鈥淲e are working to catch up on much-needed recreation infrastructure and also make small, common-sense reforms like these for our seniors, youth, children, and families to improve access and affordability where we can,鈥 said Township Mayor Eric Woodward.

More information about registering for swimming and aquafit programs can be found at 91原创 City鈥檚 website at , under the recreation and culture tab, or for the Township, at .
