Amelia Copeland of Willoughby regularly attends craft fairs, but this weekend was her first time going as a vendor.
鈥淚鈥檝e always wanted to [do this],鈥 she said. 鈥淚 had lots of family come out to see me鈥 it鈥檚 been really busy.鈥
The third annual Craft Market Extravaganza at the Fort 91原创 Seniors Lions Club was on Saturday, Nov. 25, and saw a crowd of hundreds throughout the day.
Copeland was selling her crochet toques, tree ornaments, and Christmas trees.
She started crocheting when pandemic lock downs began in 2020, making presents for friends and family while keeping herself busy.
鈥淚 fell in love and I鈥檝e been doing it as a hobby every since,鈥 Copeland shared.
She was joined by her sister, Carly Cloutier, who was selling collectibles she made out of Disney VCR tapes and cases she鈥檚 found at thrift stores.
鈥淧encil cases, coasters, pins, hard cases, and things like that鈥 I鈥檝e always loved thrifting and I鈥檓 a huge movie fan,鈥 Cloutier said.
Even her sign at her market table was made of VCRs.
This year鈥檚 market featured local businesses, and there were a lot more vendors, said Josie Santiago, social media manager for the club.
鈥淲e have a lot more vendors outside 鈥 and the weather held out 鈥 and we have an organic feel, with a lot of community support,鈥 she said.
Last year, the market had more than 500 people visit throughout the day, and Santiago said this year was looking similar or better.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a lot busier鈥 People have been showing up since 9 a.m.,鈥 Santiago said.
Volunteers from Surrey Animal Rescue and Adoption Society (SARA) attended the market as well to sell donated toys, leashes, harnesses, and clothes for cats and dogs with proceeds benefiting the society.
鈥淲e take in dogs, cats, birds, we have bunnies 鈥 anything we鈥檒l take in鈥 and either they will stay with us or we鈥檒l put them up for adoption,鈥 explained Christiane Thoma, secretary for SARA.
鈥淲e have over 40 cats that are in a 鈥榮afe haven鈥 that will never be adopted due to behavioural problems鈥 we have a no kill [policy] so they will live out their life with us,鈥 added Mala Brown, the society鈥檚 treasurer.
People who are interested in donating or looking for more information can visit .
Santiago said more events are in the planning stages for the new year at the Lions Club.
