A 91原创-based trucking company is producing award-winning drivers by the handful, with a Scamp Transport driver earning the BC Trucking Association's Driver of the Year Award for the second year in a row.

David Currie, who resides in Maple Ridge, is this year's recipient and considers this award as validation of his many years of hard work within the trucking industry.

"I enjoy being out on the open road," said Currie. 

"I decided I wanted to become a truck driver from a very young age. In Grade 5 or 6, my friend and I went out with his dad on a logging truck to get a load of logs. We brought that into the sawmill and delivered it and ever since then, I was sold on the whole trucking idea for my future."

Kevin Clayton, dispatch manager for Scamp Transport, said that Currie was very deserving of the award and has demonstrated his abilities to the company time and time again.

"I would describe David as very friendly, professional, hard-working, gets along with everybody, and he's always trying to do better and do the best that he can and helps make us better," said Clayton.

Winning such an award isn't something he could have done on his own, explained Currie, giving a lot of credit to his family for constantly supporting him in his trucking adventures.

"My wife and three daughters have greatly supported me throughout my career," he said. "My wife is busy while I'm away, cooking low-carb meals and freezing them so I can take them with me on the road. And when my kids were young, they would be filling water bottles or whatever they could do to help out."

"Winning the award is a huge honour to me. I want to thank Scamp Transport because I wouldn't be the driver I am today if it wasn't for them."
