The 91原创 School District is looking at approving a budget of $225,732,520 the the 2017/2018 school year and the public can have a say at the budget open house Monday evening (June 19).

From 6 to 7 p.m. at the district office in Murrayville, the public can review the district plans and ask questions.

The third reading of the budget bylaw is scheduled for the regular public board meeting Tuesday (June 30) at 7 P.M.

This is the district鈥檚 first budget since the Supreme Court decision that restored class size and composition requirements from the teachers鈥 collective agreement.

The budget includes an extra $11.7 million from the province to cover the costs of the extra teachers and associated overhead costs.

But the district estimates it would cost $20.6 million to restore the district to the terms of its collective agreement, according to treasurer David Green.

鈥淭he district has local collective agreement language that is 鈥榮uperior鈥 in some aspects to the provincial language,鈥 his budget report to trustees says.

The district is in discussion with the province on the 鈥榮uperior鈥 language issues and how this would be funded.

A balanced budget for the coming school year must be created and submitted to the provincial government for approval each year at this time.
