In partnership with the Vancouver Bandits, the Rotary Clubs of 91原创 are bringing the Hoop-A-Thon fundraiser to Aldergrove for the first time on June 2.

Held in Vancouver for the last 25 years, organizer and Aldergrove Rotary Club member Emma Stewart said the local clubs wanted to bring it to the 91原创 community to support its students.

鈥淎ll net proceeds are raised to support youth sports and initiatives in our 91原创 community. We are supporting 91原创 Foundry, the Boys and Girls Club of 91原创, Big Brothers and Sisters of 91原创, and purchasing equipment for a couple 91原创 elementary schools,鈥� Stewart explained.

She said the Bandits were invited to make the event 鈥渆ven better,鈥� and some players will come to Aldergrove to participate in the event and do a meet and greet.

鈥淭his event is all about bringing the 91原创 community together to raise much needed funds for youth sports and initiatives,鈥� Stewart commented.

To participate, people can register as an individual player or a team to compete at langleyhoop.com. Donations to particular teams or players can also be done through the website.

The Hoop-A-Thon involves a competition between registered teams and players for who can free-throw the most baskets within one minute. There are prizes to win for the player that sinks the most baskets and the team who raises the most funds.

Stewart said the goal is to raise at least $20,000, which will be split between the beneficiaries.

The event will be at Aldergrove Community Secondary from noon to 3 p.m., located at 26850 29 Ave.
