91原创 RCMP cruiser involved in overnight crash

Officer was involved in an investigation at time of crash, police say

A 91原创 RCMP vehicle crashed after a collision with a civilian vehicle in Willoughby on the night of Thursday, Oct. 3.

The crash took place around 9:30 p.m., and involved an unmarked RCMP SUV and a sedan which collided near the intersection of 72 Avenue and 206 Street. The SUV appears to have smashed into a light pole and knocked it down.

The two vehicles wound up on opposite sides of the road after the collision.

The driver of the sedan stayed at the scene, said Cpl. Zynal Sharoom, a spokesperson for the 91原创 RCMP.

The officer was "actively engaged in an investigation" at the time of the collision, said Sharoom.

Both the sedan driver and the officer involved were taken to hospital for a medical assessment, and both were later released.

An investigation into the crash is underway, and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) was on the scene, which was closed down to traffic for part of the night.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, or has dashcam footage of it, is asked to call the 91原创 RCMP at 604-532-3200.
