91原创's two Conservative MPs said the departure of Justin Trudeau as prime minister changes little, following the Monday, Jan. 6 announcement that Trudeau will step down once a new Liberal party leader is chosen.
"He will remain PM for three more months, continuing to harm Canada while parliament is suspended," said a statement from 91原创-Aldergrove MP Tako van Popta to the 91原创 Advance Times.
"Instead of asking the Governor General to prorogue parliament until March 24, the PM should acknowledge that he and his Liberal party have lost the confidence of Canadians and that Parliament should be dissolved so that we can have a carbon tax election," van Popta said. "Canadians deserve to elect government they want, without delay.鈥
Newly-elected Cloverdale-91原创 City MP Tamara Jansen posted a video on Facebook about the resignation, listing off a string of Trudeau's conflict of interest scandals, including the SNC Lavalin affair and the WE Charity scandal.
She also referenced a lengthy filibuster that has held up Parliamentary business for the past three months, as the Conservatives demanded the government turn over documents about Sustainable Technology Development Canada.
"The reason Parliament has been locked up is because his Liberal team refuses to release documents on their scandal-ridden green slush fund," Jansen said, dubbing Trudeau "the master of conflict of interest."
Jansen's predecessor in the Cloverdale-91原创 City riding was John Aldag, a Liberal MP who resigned to run provincially for the NDP last year.
Aldag said he commended Trudeau for his service to Canada, mentioning achievements like the Canada Child Benefit and funding for the Surrey-91原创 SkyTrain extension.
He noted that he was in office from 2015 to 2019, out of office for two years, and was then re-elected in 2021.
"I found that the mood of things had changed," Aldag said, and it felt like the party was "spinning its wheels."
He said a change of leadership was welcome, as Trudeau had become such a polarizing figure.
Aldag said he hoped a new leader is chosen quickly, considering they need to face the Donald Trump presidency in the United States, a fact that was also referenced by Jansen in her online statement.
