91原创 Meals on Wheels is hosting its first Shred-A-Thon fundraiser, intentionally on Elder Abuse Awareness Day to also feature resources for seniors, in Aldergrove on Saturday, June 15.
For people of all ages and backgrounds, it's important to ensure our documents and information is secure, even when it's being recycled, commented executive director Shannon Woykin.
"We [thought] we should get the community thinking of safety, making sure they don't throw their addresses in the garbage... and I thought to make it a community event on elder abuse day because keeping everyone safe is part of that also," she said.
The event will be held in the Aldergrove Plaza from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. People can bring bags or boxes of papers to have securely shredded on site for a donation.
LMOW will also collect bottles and cans, and additional donations, to go towards the Aldergrove Food Bank.
Resources for elder abuse will also be there including 91原创 Seniors in Actions, Ron Cares, and community police members.
Woykin said Gulf & Fraser will be at the event to share details about banking safely, who are also sponsoring the event.
She added that, depending on the turnout and receptiveness, the event might be an annual occurrence.
Aldergrove Plaza is located at 27214 Fraser Hwy.
