91Ô´´ leaders brought together in prayer

For the past three decades, community movers and shakers brought together for breakfast meeting

For 30 years running now, many of 91Ô´´'s leaders have come together once a year in prayer.

And once again, between 250 and 300 are expected to take part in the 91Ô´´ Leadership Prayer Breakfast happening in mid-October.

The annual prayer breakfast is held every October and brings together leaders of every description, explained Joel Schacter. He has spearheaded the event committee for the eight years.

This year's prayer breakfast is set for Friday, Oct. 18, at the 91Ô´´ Events Centre (7888 200 St.), starting at 7 a.m.

The gathering provides local leaders an opportunity to meet, reaffirm their faith in God, uphold those in authority in prayer, and express appreciation to community leaders, said Schacter.

This time out, the morning’s guest speaker is Doris Olafson.

Olafson is the founder of DO Philanthropy Inc and co-founder of the Joyful Living Giving Foundation.

A social entrepreneur, coach, and consultant, she has worked in fundraising at the international level for 25 years, and is described as being adept at cultivating relationships, motivating high performance, and helping individuals, charities, and businesses achieve and exceed their goals.

Olafson lives in 91Ô´´ with her shih-tzu terrier, some plants, and a few beautiful paintings of her late husband, Ray.

The word ‘unpoverty’ is tattooed on her chest, but it is her family that is tattooed on her heart, she said, noting she gets so excited about her work sometimes that she forgets to sleep.

Music is also always a part of this upcoming breakfast meeting, Schacter said.

This year, local musicians Russ and Sandy Rosen – a couple of singer-songwriters who have written, recorded, and produced more than a dozen albums – will showcase their talents.

They have been artist entrepreneurs for more than 35 years, pioneering a touring musical production, a music publishing company, and a travelling arts caravan that has toured across Canada for five years. They are also the founders of Bez Arts Hub, a small entertainment venue in the Willowbrook area of town.

91Ô´´ Leadership Prayer Breakfast was the brainchild of Dick Driedger, Schacter explained.

"His vision was to find a way to uplift 91Ô´´'s elected officials in prayer and to honour those who serve their community in various capacities," the organizer said.

Firefighters, police officers, members of the school board, community volunteers, federal and provincial leaders, and all Township and City councillors are invited, noted Schacter, who said the committee begins preparations in January for the 30th anniversary of the 91Ô´´ Leadership Prayer Breakfast.

Tickets are $40 each, with a table of eight going for $280. Tickets are available online at . Those with questions can email: langleylpb@gmail.com.
