Two 91原创 City men want to create a stronger sense of community in the place they call home and have created the 91原创 Initiative.

Dammy Ogunseitan calls it 鈥渁 grassroots policy advocacy group aimed at empowering citizens and advocating for positive change in 91原创 City.鈥

He and co-founder Armaan Lilothia are inviting residents to a meeting Thursday, Jan. 18, at 7 p.m. in CoWorks by Elevate, 20627 Fraser Hwy.

鈥淒uring this gathering, we will outline our goals, discuss key issues affecting our community, and strategize on effective ways to bring about constructive changes,鈥 Ogunseitan. 鈥淲e envision a collaborative approach, drawing on the distinct perspectives of our residents to address issues that matter most to all of us.鈥

Lilothia explained that the 91原创 Initiative will be a grassroots platform to bring people together.

鈥淲e鈥檒l be hosting meetings and events, workshops just to create an atmosphere where we have an informed citizenry so people are more involved,鈥 he added.

He said some residents may be hesitant to take part in community through traditional mechanisms such as public hearings or there may not be a mechanism to connect with decision makers about some issues, such as the drug crisis. The 91原创 Initiative is intended to allow people to communicate better not only with local decision makers, but also other residents. They have already been in touch with City Mayor Nathan Pachal and hope other members of council will take an interest.

The initiative has the motto 鈥淓mpowering Citizens, Advocating for Change.鈥 There鈥檚 no cost to take part, and the plan is to hold meetings about once every two or three months to discuss issues of concern.

Lilothia said the meetings will cover topics of interest to residents, everything from housing, rental issues, homelessness, SkyTrain鈥檚 arrival, the drug crisis, recreation centres, infrastructure, development projects, and more.
