For its first time, the annual B.C.-Wide Juried Exhibition artSpacific is coming to 91原创 next month.
Nine of 16 artists are expected to compete for the title of BC landscape artist of the year and the people鈥檚 choice award.
Mimi Sayvong, arts coordinator for the 91原创 Arts Council (LAC), said a plan for hosting this exhibit has been in the works for a few years.
鈥淲e have such great parks and green spaces in the 91原创, there is an abundance of landscape painters, and our BC-Wide portrait competition has created a unique experience for the community and has continued to be a success. So it feels like the perfect event for the LAC to host,鈥 she said.
The exhibit runs from Sept. 27 to Nov. 6 at the Timms Community Centre in the council鈥檚 鈥淲alkway Gallery鈥 located at 20399 Douglas Cres.
Five awards will be given out at the awards ceremony at the opening reception on Oct. 1, and each winner will receive a free membership to the LAC.
The day will also include a live painting competition, a speech by Township councillor Kim Ritcher, and first place two honourable mentions will be announced.
鈥淰isitor鈥檚 can explore [our] programming, gallery exhibition dates, artists submissions, and the younger spectators can engage in our craft and colouring station,鈥 Sayvong said.
The event will be free to the public, and guests can get a voting card from the LAC booth at Williams Park.
鈥淓ach live painting artist will have a card beside them, explaining whether they鈥檙e in the running for landscape artist of the year or the people鈥檚 choice award,鈥 she explained, noting guests can drop their vote cards off at the LAC booth.
A viewers choice winner will be announced a week later on LAC鈥檚 social media, Sayvong added.
More than 150 visitors are expected to attend the exhibit to watch and view artists鈥 work, which plays a large role in the people鈥檚 choice awards.
Sayvong said the council is looking forward to show off local artists鈥 talents.
2D artists based in B.C. who work on paper, canvas, or wooden panel are invited to submit their work before the deadline on Friday, Sept. 1.
Up to three pieces of work can be submitted per artist, and there is no specific theme for this exhibit.
