91ԭ’s Kailea de Leon is very different from the character she plays in 91ԭ Little Theatre’s production of ‘Rx’, but she is up for the challenge.

“I love getting to be different people. I love learning my characters, walking in their shoes, and getting into their heads,” she said.

De Leon always wanted to act, but she had to seek out the few opportunities there were growing up and overcome many roadblocks as a child and young adult.

It wasn’t until her late 20s when she met other creative and motivated upcoming and professional actors in theatre that her career improved.

“A highlight in my journey was booking an actor role on a pilot [episode], and then being brought back for the finale. Sadly, I didn’t have any lines, but it was a lot of fun,” de Leon shared.

She recalled her enjoyment playing Aurelie in the play ‘According to Aurelie’ by Lauren Trotzuk.

“I deeply connected to the character and got to showcase my singing ability,” she said.

Now, she is playing a lead role in the 91ԭ Little Theatre’s production of ‘Rx’ by Kate Fodor – directed by Darcy J. Knopp, who is also playing a couple characters in the play.

The play follows Meena Pierotti (de Leon) as she navigates her work-related depression by enrolling in a drug trial for an experimental therapy that could cure work place depression. Phil Gray is the doctor in charge, played by Tony Loyer, and starts to take a liking to Meena.

“My favourite thing about this show is being able to play opposite my partner, Tony. The play is cute and funny, and so is Tony,” de Leon said.

The play runs Thursday, Friday, Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. until Nov. 11.

Tickets are $25 each, and can be bought online at .

“The audience should know not to take this play too seriously. It’s not in farce territory, but it’s not very deep either,” explained de Leon.

91ԭ Little Theatre is located at 4307 200th St.
