There is no indication that threats against schools and daycares in 91原创 and Abbotsford are credible, 91原创 RCMP said on Monday morning.

The threats apparently come from an email that began circulating online on April 6, when 91原创 RCMP received multiple calls about it, said Sgt. Zynal Sharoom, spokesperson for the 91原创 RCMP.

"It does not appear to be a credible threat and falls in the realm of 'swatting,'" Sharoom said.

Swatting is a practice in which someone uses anonymous phone calls or emails to imply a major threat at a specific location, to prompt a large police response. Swatting incidents have included claims of mass shootings or murders, and are often carried out because of a private argument or as harassment against a specific individual.

Sharoom did not give details about the contents of the email, but he said it was sent to various recipients and "contains concerning language alleging potential acts of violence."

He noted that the threats were about incidents supposedly taking place on Monday, April 7 and officers were deployed at certain schools, even though it is likely not a credible threat, as a precaution.

"We are closely working with the Abbotsford Police Department to thoroughly investigate these reported threats. At this time, there is no information to indicate that the threat is credible," Sharoom said.

came from someone going by the name "Harvard" who claimed they would target local schools, and alleged to be armed with an AR-15 "as well as many other firearms," and to have placed bombs in local schools as well.

The Abbotsford PD also said they had found no credibility to back up the threats, and were looking into their origin.

There were also several swatting calls in Abbotsford over the weekend, falsely claiming violence was taking place and people were in danger.

Anyone with information on the email or related to the incident is being urged to contact their local police agency. The 91原创 RCMP can be reached at 604-532-3200.

This is not the first time vague online threats seemingly aimed at local schools have rattled the community.

The most recent incident took place last September, when social media threats were deemed to be unfounded. Some previous incidents have led to school lockdowns, depending on the seriousness of the threats and the time it took to determine if there was any truth to them.
