The watchdog agency that oversees police is seeking witnesses to an arrest in 91原创 City that left one woman injured.
According to an IIO announcement on March 21, the incident took place around 8 p.m. on Jan. 12 this year.
91原创 RCMP had been called to a building in the 5600 block of 201A Street, after someone reported a disturbance.
Police found and spoke to the woman who was the subject of the disturbance complaint. They told her she was being placed under arrest.
The woman suffered what the IIO calls 鈥渁 serious but not life-threatening injury while being taken into custody.鈥
The IIO was notified of the incident on Jan. 22, 10 days after the arrest.
So far, the early phase of the investigation has been to confirm that the injury meets the threshold of 鈥渟erious harm鈥 under the Police Act.
The agency is still investigating 鈥渨hether police actions were necessary, proportionate, and reasonable under the circumstance.鈥
